What to look for in a Propane Grill

By Michael James Bill Clarkson John Hopstret Mel Carzell Peter Phillips Mike Smith Mark Smith Bill Allen

You don't want to waste money when you are purchasing a propane grill. You want to get everything you need, nothing you don't, and the best price possible. You will consider the costs, makes, models and features, but there are some other things you are going to want to consider, such as upkeep and who you purchase the grill from.

You can choose from any of the thousand different propane grills available to you. Their are backyard grills and then there are portable grills. If your grill will never leave your deck, don't even consider looking at the portable grills - they just won't get the job done for regular home grilling. Portable grills, however, are perfect to travel with to a big game or a buddy's house. They are light and easy to setup and move. They aren't a backyard grill, but they can do a decent job if not over used.

Backyard grills are way too big and bulky to be moving around. Depending on the size, it may be feasible to transport it back and forth between your back and front yard, or from undercover to out in the open, but probably not more. Backyard grills can stand up to frequent use and bigger, more demanding cuts of meat -- such as chickens, racks of ribs, or london broils.

If you are lacking in the space department for a grill, you may want to consider the portable grill as well. Portable grills don't have a big footprint, so they may be a better fit for you. Plus, since they are easy to move, you can put them away and pull them out only when needed. They are very handy, and do a good job as long as you aren't trying to cook for a huge crowd.

Grill makers have found that men really get excited about grill accessories. They have come up with many things that will either 'make our lives easier', 'get grilling done better and faster' or are just plain cool. Don't get sucked into the hype. You should really consider what accessories you do and don't need, and what you really expect you'll use. We have found that many of the accessories people purchase don't ever actually get used.

If you are looking for a top of the line grill, most people look no further than Weber, and for good reason. Yes, they are pricey, but they also pump out some of the best quality grills in the industry. These things are built well, have great warranty's, and just plain do a good job at cooking evenly.
