By Sander Kay

When you hear the word pancake, what first pops into your head? You probably think about how delicious they are drenched in butter and syrup and how you just love the fluffiness of the pancakes.

Have you every tried to make your own fluffy pancakes? Did they fail to come out as fluffy as you would have liked? It's very likely that that's the case. Making pancakes is easy, but getting that fluffiness you crave is not quite as easy.

If you're pancakes fall flat, there could be several different reasons one, or just one. If you don't know what you are doing, it's easy to make mistakes. These are the mistakes that you don't realize are mistakes while you are making them.

The most basic cause of flat pancakes can be made by anyone as a careless mistake, but should be the first cause to look into. It's pretty easy to catch if you know a little about baking. It could be because you forgot to add the baking powder or soda.

All pancake recipes will require the addition of either baking powder or baking soda. These agents will make the pancakes rise, hence giving them their fluffiness. If you forget this ingredient or don't put enough in, they will fall flat.

Pancakes can also loose their fluffiness if the batter is beat or mixed too much. Over mixing will cause the pancakes to become tough and dense. This is far from fluffy and is easy to miss as a cause of flat pancakes.

If you want to get fluffy pancakes and avoid tough pancakes, be gentle when you combine the wet and dry ingredients. Don't use an electric mixer, just use a wooden spoon and stir it all until combined.

You can make fluffy pancakes as long as you know what you are doing and you are careful. Don't just throw everything together, pay attention to what you are doing and they should come out great.
