Become a Vegetarian: The Ultimate Guide

By Lucille Green

If you are thinking of becoming a vegetarian you may be debating if it is for health reasons or because you do not like the thought of animals dying to be used as food. You may ask yourself will it really make much difference in the scheme of things.

Individually it probably won't as it is only a small scale thing but if many people feel the same way, it does have an effect on the lives of many animals. The primary reason for the change is the reduction of deaths caused by heart disease that is brought about by the huge consumption of meat.

Meat, dairy produce and eggs are the main sources of cholesterol which are the contributing factors in coronary heart disease and other circulation problems. The figures speak for themselves when a person who eats meat is four times as likely to suffer a heart attack as someone who is a vegetarian. Pure vegans have an even lower likelihood of a heart attack with only a 10 percent chance against a meat eater. The improvements in health do not end there if you are a vegetarian.

Preservatives which are used a great deal in meat are reduced and so are the incidences of cancer. As a vegetarian you won't be exposed to various hormones (that are packed into animal feed), which often disrupt normal hormonal processes in the body. It is also much easier to avoid the consumption of lactose which many people have intolerance to, causing digestive conditions. On a more ethical note, you will be surprised how much less suffering in animals you will be responsible for by becoming a vegetarian.

The organization Vegan Out-Reach claims that the number of animals killed to feed the average American citizen during their life is in excess of two thousand seven hundred. Just in a couple of decades, many hundreds of animals would not need to loose their lives if you were to make this commitment.

If you were also to give up dairy products and eggs, many battery hens and cows would not need to be used to feed you. Well after reading this it is obvious the easy answer is yes it is better to become a vegetarian. This commitment matters to each individual for their health, the health of the planet and those of the animals which will not need to be slaughtered to provide food.
