Roasted Jalapeno Peppers

By Anthony Tripp

Cutting back on fried foods, especially deep fried foods is a great idea. Roasted foods taste just as good and are easy to prepare in the comforts of your own home. You can take a classic fried food like jalapeno poppers and roasted them to create a much the healthier version, roasted jalapeno peppers.

Jalapeno poppers are usually stuffed with cheese, battered and deep fried. Sometimes they also contain bacon or sausage or even ground beef. Theyre delicious but not very healthy. But underneath all the fried batter is still a jalapeno pepper. And last time I checked, a jalapeno pepper was still a vegetable. If you remember that this is a vegetable youre on your way to healthier popper.

When you pick a cheese to stuff the pepper, stay clean of the cream cheese. Picking a low fat or part skim cheese is a good choice. Dairy products like cheese will tone down the spiciness of the peppers. So if you like it hot, why not skip the cheese all together. Or you can go with a really strong cheese like blue cheese or goat cheese and you won't have to use as much.

Now you'll want to add some other ingredients to the be stuffed into the pepper. Green onions, pimentos and black olives and nice additions and will blend nicely with the cheese. And if you must put some meat in your pepper, why not try turkey bacon or sausage.

When cooking your stuffed jalapenos, you're going to want a jalapeno pepper roaster. This cool device will keep the pepper upright during cooking. This way none of the stuffing will drip out and make a mess in your oven. They're usually made of stainless steel and safe for either the oven or the barbecue. They make roasting stuffed peppers a lot easier.

Jalapeno poppers are delicious but there's much better ways to get your fill of jalapenos. And the best way to do that is to avoid the deep fat fryer and try a roasted jalapeno pepper instead.
