Juicers

By Abby Cardin

When you purchase your smoothie maker, you have opened the door for using a terrific little appliance for your family's summer treats and year-round nutritional drinks. When deciding whether to buy one and if so, what to look out for, there are a few things to consider.

It is really not a blender although it is similar. The wattage for the maker is higher and this power makes the smoothie smooth and creamy. The ice is crushed finely and is blended with the other ingredients. The whirl of the blades pulls the ice and fruit downward for blending.

The containers are made either of glass or of plastic and are really a personal preference. If the tweens are using this little appliance, the safety of plastic can be a benefit. The glass is heavier to handle and more costly to replace if broken. Both wash up nicely. The parts of this container which come in contact with the fruit and ice come apart for easy cleaning.

The top of the container is larger for filling with fruit and ice. At the lower part of the container it begins to narrow. This design is to move the fruit and ice down to the blades for crushing and blending. There is a spout at the base for dispensing the smoothies. That's quite convenient. Take care in cleaning the blade of you maker. They are priceless and do a lot of work.

Following a recipe for smoothies is even easier because most containers have measurement markings on the side. Recipes call for fresh fruits, yogurt or milk and ice. You can simply add and substitute ingredients as you wish and even make your smoothie loaded with protein by adding the protein powder of you choice. Remember that the more ingredients or protein powder that you add, you are adding calories also.

Growing children often need supplements for better growth. The smoothie maker is a great way to help them get more of what they need in a refreshing and delicious way. Breakfast doesn't have to have a cereal bowl when protein from the yogurt or milk makes the smoothie a great breakfast for fussy tweens and teens. This gives your smoothie maker a job for year round meal making.

For your benefit, the smoothie maker changes your powdered diet drink into a luscious shake like treat. The maker takes up little space in a kitchen on the counter, but opens a completely new treat maker for the family. Choose wisely for your needs and then enjoy!
