How TEC Grills Brought Infrared To Grilling

By Mike Pit

Thermal Engineering Corporation (TEC) has been in business over 40 years working in the field of infrared radiant energy. Back in 1961, they came up with a ceramic infrared burner that was highly efficient. This innovation has made them the defacto infrared experts worldwide.

TEC stays busy with R&D and they have over 30 patents to prove it. They are always on the leading edge, having produced the first gas grill eith a concealed tank in 1980, and the also invented the first infrared grill. TEC was also the inventor of a glass infrared cooking system, the first all metal flare-resistant infrared grill and also the first portable infrared grill system.

There's no argument that evenly cooked food tastes better, especially if the juices and flavor have been seared in. Infrared heats up quickly and distributes evenly. It also helps you use less fuel. The key is radiant energy, which is produced by infrared. Unlike other heat, it doesn't need a medium to transfer through. Instead, it produces heat be exciting the molecules within the food. It's very similar to the heat you produced when you rub your hands together.

When you're on the leading edge, the awards will follow and it's no different for TEC. Here are few of them: The 2005 Hearth and Home Magazine "Vesta" award for best new barbecue and best in show for New Outdoor Products. Then, in 2006 they followed up with the kitchen innovations award from the National Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show for innovations in the TEC Searmaster II Infrared Charbroiler. That same year, the also received the GFEN Blue Flame Product Of The Year Award and they were nominated by the International Academy of Science for Outstanding Technology of the Year Award for the G400FR model.

TEC infrared grills have many advantages over the competition. First, it uses 100% stainless steel burners which ensures that they can handle the heat over time. TEC varies the size and shape it's apertures to evenly distribute the heat; and when I see even, the variance is never more than 5%.

Flare proof resistance is brought to the consumer by the metal burner. This burner operates with 100% primary air. Without a secondary source, there are no flare-ups.

TEC grills can cook just about anything because of it's wide range. You can control temperatures from 300 deg F to 900 deg F. Regardless of the temperature, TEC grills use 50% less gas than most competing brands.

The TEC Searmaster II offers a great return on investments with savings through gas, labor, and food cost while producing delectable meals. Even if you choose 'well done" for your steak, the food will still be juicy, with less than 30% shrinkage. This model is practically maintenance free.

The Sterling series grills from TEC come in several models, great for the outdoor kitchens. Made with 14 and 18 gauge 304 stainless steel, a lifetime warranty covers these 100% stainless steel grills. You needn't worry about neither rust nor dents, and come with casters for easy moving.

These and all models of TEC grills can be found worldwide at such locations as True Value, ACE, Lehrer, and Ferrelgas.
