Homemade Deep Fried Food

By Kristen Thorpe

Okay, we all know that deep fried food is bad for us, but sometimes it may be hard to resist the taste of some of our deep fried favorites. It may be the urge to have a piece of crunchy deep fried chicken for dinner one night or simply an irresistible urge for some hot French fried. I know there are times when I really love a dish of fried clams. You don't have to go to a fast-food restaurant to get your favorite fried foods because it's easy to make it at home with a deep fryer.

And really, there's nothing quite the same as the taste and crunch of homemade fried food. You'll find there are many quality deep fryers available that make deep-frying food at home much more convenient than you would expect. For example, Italian manufacturer DeLonghi makes a nice variety of popular deep frying machines including it's Dual Zone fryer, its deluxe Roto Fryer and their Cool Touch frying machine. Other brands include Fry Daddy and George Foreman with its new Lean Mean Deep Frying Machine.

You'll have fun making a lot of great dishes with your own deep fryer - and there's no shortage of recipes since there are many deep frying cookbooks as well as many deep frying recipes available free on the internet. A quick look on the web will show you lots of tasty deep frying recipes for almost any food including meats, veggies, seafood, desserts, and other popular dishes.

Are you looking for a simple recipe such as the foodie favorite battered onion rings? You can find many variations of recipes for this sinful goodie - in addition to the onions, most of the recipes will commonly include the batter ingredients of cornmeal, flour, spices such as pepper and salt, and egg. Once you've sliced the onions, you'll soak them in a dish of milk before dipping them in your batter. Then you drop them into your hot deep-fryer and within minutes you'll have a batch of delicious fresh hot onion rings to eat.

Another favorite is fritters including seafood fritters like lobster, oyster, and clam-based fritters as well as ham fritters and green bean fritters. The common ingredients in these dishes generally feature eggs, breadcrumbs, mashed potatoes, and various spices. Once the ingredients are combined, fritters are either rolled into balls or dropped by spoonfuls into the hot oil of the deep fryer.

Another popular deep fried batter is made using beer - there are recipes for beer battered vegetable and beer battered chicken too. These can be a treat as an appetizer for an upcoming gathering or as part of your main meal. Once you've tasted homemade deep fried food, you'll probably never want fried food from a fast food restaurant again.
