Gift Shopping Recommendations

By George Curtis

While many people enjoy shopping, they may not necessarily enjoy it when they have to specifically go Christmas gift shopping. If that sounds like you, then you may want to consider starting a gift "closet, drawer, box, etc." That probably sounds a bit strange, yet it can work. The basic idea is to set aside an area or a box you easily store somewhere and continuously fill it with gifts for those you shop for regularly.

The idea is to keep your eye out year-round for deals on items that you think the people on your list would enjoy. Clearance racks, close-outs, sales, etc. can actually yield some amazing finds at bargain prices. In this way you can come up with some great gifts for everyone on your list and save a great deal of money too.

You also want to keep an eye out for gifts that can be used for unexpected events, such as a new baby gift, gift baskets for housewarming parties and even last minute birthday presents. You can include everything from stationery and candles for the other unexpected occasions that may require a gift. For the creative person, you could also get busy with some gifts crafts. As you do your gift shopping, make sure the gifts go straight to the gift closet so that they will be right there when you need them.

There are a few ways that you can help minimize stress during holiday shopping as well. Some of the easiest last minute gifts are usually anything that can be done up in baskets, such as gourmet food gift baskets or Christmas gift baskets of any type. You can add decorations to the baskets to make them more personalized.

In order to preserve a little bit of sanity around the holidays, try to limit activities to a few meaningful ones. For example, if your family has a long standing tradition of getting the tree and decorating it all one day, then by all means forget making cookies or purchase them instead. With regard to Christmas gift shopping, try to stretch it out instead of doing it all at once. As well, try purchasing some of your gifts online or get to the mall when the doors open in the morning or during the dinner hour to beat the crowds.
