Four Excellent Ways To Have A Traditional Kitchen

By Matthew Kerridge

There is nothing more beautiful than a traditional kitchen in ones home. Modern kitchens I suppose also have a place but they just don't do it for me. The atmosphere must be relaxed which cannot be achieved with icy cold marble and chrome.

To remedy this, lets have a look at four ways for you to get them back into the kitchen and communicating again:

Idea One: The first thing you could do to get that cozy country feel, is to accessorize your kitchen with objects that look dated. Replace your glass jars with antique looking storage tins, place some wicker baskets around, hang a copper pot or pan on a wall. String some dried vegetables and hang them in a corner. You need to think earth with natural looking vases or pots. Get a terracotta pot and store your potatoes on a shelf somewhere. Do your windows with blinds that also look old fashioned.

Idea Two: Wood always makes a room look inviting, cozy and homely. If you are planning a completely new kitchen then by all means opt for a robust oak finish. This wood is durable and always looks elegant no matter how old. If you want to change the look here and there, then have your cabinet doors replaced with a good oak wood. It will instantly change your kitchen into an expensive looking one, but at half the price of a complete cabinet replacement.

Idea Three: If it is romance and ambiance you want to create in your kitchen, then do it with lighting. Small recess units will look stunning under your cabinets to highlight a workspace. Or what about multi-colored lighting in the cabinets that have glass doors. Choose pastel tones like yellow, lime, and pink bulbs, which in turn strategically placed really gives your kitchen a magical spirit.

Idea Four: Flooring will make or break your kitchen. It is the first thing our eye catches and will instantly make you like the kitchen or dislike it. Here you need to be really daring by using stone for your flooring needs. Slate makes a wonderful floor cover that is easy to clean and has marvelous textures and colors to choose from. A well known secret these days is to extend a piece of your slate flooring up on the wall, behind your stove and hob. This really makes a kitchen come alive and gives it a focal point.

The idea of a traditional kitchen is giving it a personality of it's own. It must invite you in and keep you there for hours on end. It should be a place where the family have their most fun. So a last tip is to let a family member give you an object that has a lot of sentimental value. Have it mounted or give it a special stand and place it in the kitchen on it's own specially made shelf or space. They will love you for it and will always tend to gravitate towards the best room in the house!
