Life's a Peach in Georgia

Peaches are great fruits that are packed with natural goodness and nutrition with each bite. They contain Vitamins A and C, fiber, potassium and are good for keeping cholesterol levels low. What other place can you go to, to find the perfect peach but in Georgia? This state is best known for the peaches that they grow. Even with the amount of peaches that is available you will surely want to pick the best Georgia peach.

To pick the best Georgia peaches there are several things that you will want to remember. The appearance of the peach itself will tell you a lot. Peaches that are green are not ripe enough; those that are shriveled are old. Make sure that the peach you choose has a yellow or creamy gold under color. You will also want it to be firm to the touch but don't press it so that you don't bruise it.

A ripe peach will always have that distinct smell; a mix between something flowery and sweet. If in case you end up with a peach that is not ripe enough yet leave it in on your counter for about a day or two. It will be ready after that since peaches ripen in room temperature. Ripe peaches should be refrigerated and used within a week.

There are other ways that you have your peaches, not just fresh. Nothing will beat a homemade peach pie that is warm from the oven. Peach preserves are also a great way to make use of all those peaches that are a bit too ripe, plus it stores really well too. They can be mixed into muffins, pancakes, topped on waffles or used for cooking. The options are endless.

You can even make money out of what you make with your peaches at a Georgia craft show. Something with a touch of home will surely be a great hit at something like this. In fact most anything that you can make can be sold art such events giving you some good money and allowing others to enjoy what you make.
