Grilling Tools for Barbecue Season

By Natasha Johnson

It's getting hotter these days, and you're probably thinking about all the steaks and burgers you'll be grilling this summer. It's a good time to stock up on some great grilling tools that will make your grilling experiences more pleasurable.

1. Basting brushes. Marinated meats and vegetables are great when grilled, and basting brushes come in particularly handy for brushing on additional marinades and glazes while grilling.

2. Wire grill baskets. These usually come hinged, and with long handles that allow you to flip the basket easily. Grill baskets are great for grilling any foods that tend to flake while cooking, or have small pieces that could slip through onto the fire.

3. Barbecue skewers. Bring on those kabobs! Grilled kabobs are a nice summer meal, and you can get skewers for kabobs in either bamboo or metal. Make sure to soak bamboo skewers for half an hour before grilling. Metal skewers can get very hot, so take care when turning them, or get ones with heat-resistant handles.

4. Meat thermometers. These are a great investment for the grill afficionado, letting you grill rare or medium rare steaks without anxiety. They're good for ensuring grilled chicken is fully cooked, too.

5. Tongs. Long-handled tongs are an essential tool for grilling, and if you've only ever relied on a spatula or a long-handled fork in the past, you'll find flipping food so much easier with tongs.
