What Should You Know About Replacement Water Filters?

By Peter Abertoning

Replacement water filters. Is the cost of replacement cartridges a problem?

If you understand the risks associated with drinking water from the regular municipal water supplies then you understand the need for a great water filter, not just a good one, so there's no doubt that you need a good water filter in your home.

But when you look for water filters you'll find that some need regular replacement of the filter cartridge. Is this an issue?

The filter medium that filters out all those impurities can become clogged with contaminants and will work less effectively over time, so you need to buy a new filter cartridge.

This is good. This means that the water filter is working and the contaminants that you would otherwise be drinking are now captured in the cartridge. When you throw the cartridge in the trash youve just thrown out all the impurities that you would have drunk. You can feel good about this.

But it costs money to buy replacement water cartridges and some people choose their water filter based not on choosing the best water filter but on the cost of the cartridges. And that's not the best way to choose your water filter.

You need to buy the best water filter to filter your water and keep you healthy. You shouldn't factor in the cost of replacing the filter just to save some bucks, and end up with an inferior water purifier.

But it's quite true that cost is also an issue for many too. And there is good news for those people.

The best filters that money can buy are in fact not the most expensive water filters, and even if you factor in the cost of replacement cartridges they are extremely cost competitive.

There are water filter comparisons done which show that the best water filters cost around 9.6 cents per gallon to use, and some of the others can cost anywhere up to 25 cents a gallon to use, and that's with all costs, including replacement cartridges, included.

In fact of 10 drinking water filters tested the best water filter was the cheapest water filter to buy and use. Good news for anyone on a budget.

So if youre looking for a water filter and are wondering about the cost of cartridge replacements then rest easy, the best water filter is also the cheapest water filter to buy and use. The best replacement water filters are in fact extremely good value.

How Do You Get Olive Oil From Olives?

By Brandino Z Borgattelli

Using a traditional press to extract olive oil from olives has been used for hundreds of years. This process consists of extracting the oil and water from the olive paste. A complete process is needed in able to make olive oil, which once finished with the pressing process; it must also be put through a decanter in order to separate the vegetation water from the olive oil itself. Here is the full process that is needed:

After the olive harvest has taken place, the olives are placed under a millstone or ground stone for thirty to forty minutes to ground them to a paste called olive paste. The olives are left under the stone for this amount of time to achieve the flavor they need and to form large olive oil drops. The aromas that the olive enzymes let out are also need to create a better aroma for the oil.

After the necessary time the olive paste is removed from the millstones or ground stones and put onto special disks called fiber disks. The paste must be spread over the disks and completely cover it. They are then placed into the press, piled on top of each other. The machine will then press the paste and begin to compact it so the oils will start to percolate. So the percolation is easier water is poured down the sides of the press.

After the pressing process is over the liquids are removed from the presser and taken to a separate machine called a decanter. The decanter is used to remove the excess water from the olive oil, leaving a pure olive oil. There is another process that can be used to separate the water from the oils, it is called vertical centrifuge and is normally a lot faster than using a decanter.

Every time the process of extracting oil from the olives all of the machines must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. This is because any paste or oils left on the machines can ferment and therefore contaminate any new oils that will be done in the future. After the cleaning is finished, a final inspection will take place to make sure they are fully disinfected.

The advantages of making olive oil using this traditional pressing method include a better grinding of the olive and easier to pomace as less water is added. But there are also disadvantages that include a difficult clean process, a lot more manual labor and a longer time space between harvesting the olives and pressing them.

Waffles From All Around the World

By Wendy B Millie

Waffles are a favored meal for almost anyone whether it is for breakfast, desert or as a special treat. Their recipe is very old dating back to the Middle Ages and you can find different variations in countries across the world. These variations differ in their looks, taste and how they are eaten.

The best way to describe a waffle is to say that it is a combination of a cake and pancake. To make one you will need to a have a batter consisting of water, eggs, baking powder and flour. Which part of the world your in and the type of waffle made will mean that this basic recipe will have variations. Waffles are made using a set of hot plates inside a kitchen appliance called a waffle maker.

The actual recipe dates back to Medieval times. Vendors selling waffles could be found on the streets. They would cook the batter between two iron plates over a fire and were called 'wafers'. Today's waffles are modern day versions of these wafers.

The American waffle is actually a variation of these cakes that were brought to the country by Dutch pilgrims in 1620. The Americans took the basic recipe and over the years have made it their own. Now you can find all sorts of different waffles that are sweat, savory or fruity for just about any occasion.

Most Europeans are unfamiliar with the American version. When they think of a waffle they think of the Belgian version. This is lighter and more thick than their American cousins. Just like their Medieval predecessors, these cakes are sold on the street as a hot snack.

In Hong Kong, waffles are also sold on the street. They are known as a grid cake because of the way they look and are made. In the Netherlands, stroopwafel is the modern version of their waffle from the Middle Ages that has been around since the 18th century.

If you want to make one of these types of waffles the best place to find the recipe is on the internet or in a good cookbook. Once you get a hang of the basic recipe you can start to be creative and try different things to create waffles that no one has ever tasted before.

Waffle makers are the final and most important part of making a waffle. You will need a good quality maker with non-stick hot plates. You can buy new and used models on well known websites like eBay and Amazon or from specific kitchen appliances web-stores.

Make Sure You Compare Water Filters Before You Buy.

By Peter Abertoning

Many people worry about the purity of their drinking water.

It's scary how many contaminants that can be found in municipal drinking water. So many people, including me, are now choosing not to drink these contaminants. Impurities like lead, chlorine, drugs and way more. And when it comes to choosing a water filter there's so many to choose from.

Before choosing the right type of purification system for your home, its important to compare water filters beforehand. Here are some tips on how to choose the right filter for your drinking water.

Carbon water filters are about the most effective water filters. They trap contaminants as they travel over a charcoal filter medium, and remove them from the water. And carbon water filters are quite cost competitive.

When you compare water filters, its a good idea to take carbon water filters into consideration.

Reverse osmosis water filters another one of the types of systems to consider when you compare drinking water filters. This type of filtration system works by purifying water through a very small membrane. While this water filtration system is known to be fairly effective, the process is also known to be fairly slow.

Whole house water filters are another option that most people will want to consider when they compare water filters. Keep in mind that there are many different types of specific water filters while can be used in a whole house system. This option is a great choice if you want to ensure that all of the drinking water in your home will be purified.

You can also get water filters that distill the water. As this removes just about everything it may sound ideal, but in reality is less then perfect. This is because distillation removes all the minerals from the water and this can be a problem in itself. If you remove the minerals your body can become deficient in various minerals as it relies on these in your water.

So there is really a very wide range of water filters available to the consumer, this is just some. They work very differently and have different costs, and so it can be quite a complicated process choosing the best water filter.

I often talk to people about water filters and find often that the technical aspects of how they work are too difficult. Usually they just ask me to tell them which one is the best water filter available.

2 stage activated carbon water filters are the best water filters you can get. A simple carbon water filter doesn't remove everything, so a second stage of filtration is added to take out what the carbon filter misses.

And surprisingly these world leading 2 stage carbon filters are quite cost comparable, in fact very cost competitive, to other water filters on the market.

Visit my website to find out more about 2 stage activated carbon water filters.

Most of us think that preparing such a gourmet treat must be both difficult if not truly mysterious. Well, it need not be either. Read on toward gourmancy!

For just a tiny price ($19.95) there is a website which takes you down the path to dreamy Fabulous Frosting, Chocolate Cake, Pie to Die For, and even Fancy Fondue... and more. Much much more, truly.

This site will suit both the amateur as well as the more experienced cook. There is an eCourse which presents both basic ideas and instruction. You can easily pick from about 1,500 videos that show you "How To" --- both visually as well as audibly.

Lets just stop drooling for a moment and consider this: When you serve a meal to guests (or even to the family) what is the last thing they consume? Well, of course, it is your gourmet dessert. That being the case, what are they most likely to remember?

The dessert is what sticks in their minds.

The more delicious and/or spectacular the dessert the kinder the thoughts are about the meal that preceded your "Pie to Die For". It is also true that if you serve Red Gelatin for dessert, everyone will remember a lot more about the meal that just came down the pike. Our advice: Opt for the comfort of Chocolate Cake instead of Red Monotony.

There are, (hoooray), 1000s of the best dessert recipes listed here. More, probably, than you will ever, ever use in a lifetime of Cook-ery. (Dessert-ery?)

If you cannot boil water you may have a slight struggle with some of these recipes... but, probably not. After all there are all those videos to help you should you feel you are slipping. (It's Show and Tell via your computer). What could be easier?

Tired of Meat? Try Tofu

By Kristen Thorpe

Years ago, when I started eating healthier, my older sister remarked that next I would be serving Tofurkey for Thanksgiving. I laughed at the time, thinking how funny it was that my meat, potatoes and no vegetable sister thought eating fruit and salads more would mean I was taking the leap to eating Tofurkey for the holidays. Well here it is a few years later and I find shes not so far off the mark anymore.

It seems the healthier I eat the more I move toward less meat in my diet. I simply crave it less and less. Seems that happens for a lot of people. While some people make an overnight change to vegetarian diets, others grow towards it gradually.

Now I cant swear that I will ever be completely vegetarian since I still enjoy a good steak now and again, or a dish of chicken parmigiana over a bed of linguini. And I cant imagine ever becoming vegan since that would mean giving up cheese, one of my favorite foods. But never say never I guess. The bottom line is I find myself eating a mostly vegetarian diet these days.

Of course one of the easiest foods to substitute for meat is tofu. I recently made some excellent tofu sausages in a sausage and pepper dish over a bed of basmati wild rice that was delicious. The texture of the sausage was a little different, but its a small price to pay for the relief of not wondering exactly what animal body parts I might be eating in the old days.

Not all vegetarians come to love that taste and texture of tofu. Theyll often substitute bean dishes and other food items to make up the protein in their diet. If you have never tasted tofu its certainly worth a try, it packs a good amount of low-fat protein that is very satisfying. Plus it absorbs flavors and spices very nicely making it a versatile food as well.

Another great tofu item is of course Tofurkey. I recently visited one of my local health food stores and found a great selection of Tofurkey. There were some pretty impressive choices and I decided to try the sliced Tofurkey for a sandwich meat. It was surprisingly delicious, and everyone in the family agreed.

So if you have never tried tofu but are thinking about healthy eating alternatives, then maybe its something to put on your list. Do what I did and start with something small. Maybe a local salad bar has some tofu you can add to your salad for a taste.

You can visit your local grocer or health food store to see what selection of tofu and Tofurkey they may carry. Buy a small package of the tofu turkey and make yourself a delicious grilled sandwich with some tomato and cheese on whole grain bread. Youll be surprised how good the sandwich tastes.

Clipping Coupons Reduces Grocery Spending Big Time!

By Renee Gibbs

I always argue on the side of the money saver, because I know from personal experience that coupons save me thousands of dollars a year on food. I also know that I shop really, really well and that not everybody cares to spend as much of their leisure time in this way.

The truth is that using coupons is really little more than a learned process. You have to want to do it. You have to want to learn to do it correctly, and you have to practice.

As we have just mentioned, using grocery discount coupons is not a difficult skill to learn, but does require an investment of time. The more time you are willing to take to learn the skill, the more you will ultimately save.

I happen to get a perverse pleasure out of getting a good deal, do you?

Let me just mention something else, you can learn to like what you currently consider a chore. I enjoy knowing that I have gotten something for nothing. Do you feel the same? If you don't want to take couponing this far fine, you can still save a bunch of cash with selective couponing.

If you happen to love getting free groceries, then you should try using lots of multiple coupons, ecoupons, and free printable coupons. Have fun and save a lot!

If you hate to grocery shop, then try selective couponing, coupons clipping services and electronic coupons. Using these strategies requires less time, but can still yield substantial savings, month in and month out.

If grocery shopping is your least favorite chore in the world, skip the coupons, buy only what is on sale and buy on a two week cycle.

There are literally hundreds of ways to reduce your grocery expenses. Personally, the question of if grocery coupons save money is not relevant at all. I love the money savings I get with coupons and use a lot of them every week. I literally save hundreds of dollars every month with grocery coupons. For those less experienced with coupon shopping strategies, or those who do not enjoy grocery shopping, may tell you otherwise.
